Where To? POI finder app with new Augmented Reality module

Frankfurt, January 26, 2011. During this year’s M-Days conference in Frankfurt, FutureTap has announced the immediate availability of Where To? 3.5 on the App Store. The update includes Where To? 3D, a revolutionary new Augmented Reality module for iPhone 4 and 3GS. The points of interest are displayed on top of reality.

“We looked at various AR implementations currently on the market and found they were all suffering from serious usability problems”, says Ortwin Gentz, FutureTap CEO. “Where To? 3D aims to address these problems with a refreshing, innovative approach.”

On iPhone 4, Where To? 3D uses the gyroscope to enhance the lag of the compass resulting in a much smoother and more responsive display. The standard gestures for zooming in and out are recognized. And last but not least, the common problem of adjacent POIs covering each other is solved by an innovative explode feature.

“We might be late to the AR game but we feel, the development effort was worthwhile and the results speak for themselves”, Gentz adds.

Where To? 3D is supported on iPhone 4 or 3GS running iOS 4.0 or later. It’s available via in-app-purchase for $0.99 for all supported devices under the user’s iTunes account. A 30-day free trial mode is available as well.

Where To? has sold over 300,000 copies and has received numerous awards including the “Best Feel Like A Local App” at the 2009 Best App Ever Awards. Where To? is best known as a worldwide points of interest finder that utilizes the iPhone GPS and doesn’t require the user to do any typing. It works on any iPhone or iPod touch running iOS 3.0 or later and is available for $2.99 on the App Store (http://www.futuretap.com/whereto/buy). FutureTap was founded in 2008 by Ortwin Gentz with the mission to create innovative and easy-to-use apps that fully leverage the iPhone user interface concept. The first app by FutureTap is Where To?, acquired from tap tap tap. Where To? is just the beginning, more apps are being planned.
