Where To? 6.5: Popular iPhone local search app adds more than 140k post boxes!

No matter what the user searches in the vicinity: Assisted by GPS the iPhone app “Where To?” helps finding it: More than 2,400 search queries in 700 lines of business are predefined. The new version 6.5 once again extends the feature set. It is now compatible with iOS 7 and knows more than 140k post boxes, some of them with collection times. Where To? 6.5 also supports the “Google Maps” app for getting directions.

Only a few know their city like the back of their hand. And when abroad most get lost completely. The iPhone app “Where To?” comes to rescue. Via GPS the app determines the location, then offers more than 2,400 search queries in 700 business categories. This makes it super-easy to find a sushi restaurant, a post office or a supermarket nearby. It’s also possible to search for a parking garage, a swimming pool or a vet, just to name a few examples.

The unique circular selection menu lets the user drill down to the searched category easily. Results are sorted by distance in a list or shown as pins on the map. Shaking the iPhone is all it takes to select a random category. Users can also save their own favorites.

“Where To?” 6.5 with 140k+ post boxes, Google Maps support and more
“Where To?” 6.5 adds support for iOS 7.0 and allows to smoothly use it under the updated operating system. More importantly, it adds several new features:

  • 140k+ post boxes: To post a letter, one can ask Where To? to find the next post box. More than 140k post boxes are listed worldwide, and almost 50k in Germany alone. For some of them collection times are available, too.
  • Google Maps: Destination found – what’s next? “Where To?” now works together with the Google Maps app to display routing directions – by car, bike, public transport or for pedestrians.
  • Facebook deep-linking: Places or reviews shared on Facebook now deep-link to the Where To? app if installed. This allows to add places shared by friends as Where To? favorites easily.
  • Description texts: The number of places with description texts has been increased.

Ortwin Gentz, head of FutureTap: “After releasing Where To? 6.5 we’re taking a last deep breath before version 7.0. Then we’ll completely redesign the user experience for iOS 7 and the 64 bit architecture.”

“Where To?” 6.5 available immediately on the App Store
“Where To?” 6.5 (19.7 MB) is now available for download for $2.99 US on the App Store under the “Navigation” category. Users of the previous version get the update free of charge. iOS 5.1 or newer is required. The “Where To? 3D” Augmented Reality module (iPhone required) may be tested free of charge for 30 days and can subsequently be unlocked via In App Purchase ($0.99 US).

“Where To?” has been selected by Apple as iPhone App of the Week (8/11) and is the winner of the “Best App Ever Awards” 2008, 2009 and 2010 in the category “Best Travel App”. In “iTunes Rewind”, Apple selected the app under the five best navigation apps in 2011.
