Streets 3.5: The Street View app adds workflows, image details and user-generated panoramas
FutureTap GmbH today is proud to announce the release and immediate availability of Streets 3.5, a big update of its popular Street View browser app for iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, and Apple Watch. The new version adds millions of user generated 360° panoramas of popular places around the world. The app now also allows to create powerful workflows to grab and process panorama images.
Streets is a deluxe Street View browser allowing to navigate the popular panorama images on any iOS or Apple Watch device. Showing a panorama is as simple as dropping a pin on the map or searching for an address or contact. A curated list of more than 2000 “Gallery Places” offers spectacular locations such as national parks, popular diving spots, ancient castles and more.
The availability of panorama images is marked clearly using blue lines (standard panoramas) and orange dots (indoor business views) overlays. Streets 3.5 now also supports all user-generated panoramas indicated with blue dots. These cover areas off the roads photographed by Google’s camera cars, such as mountains, beaches, parks and more.
Navigating within a panorama is super-easy with the interactive, zoomable mini map or using an iPad Smart Keyboard or any other Bluetooth keyboard. A drawer at the top shows more information about the panorama such as the location name and description. Streets 3.5 expands the shown information by including the photographer of user-generated panoramas. For some panoramas, the user can even switch to the Where To? app for more details (if installed).
A focus for this release was workflow support. The new version extends the URL scheme support and lets the user create powerful workflows to grab Street View panoramas for specified locations. For instance, the user can create a workflow that automatically fetches panorama images for contacts, event locations or other places and puts them into a note, a social media post or whatever. Ortwin Gentz, Streets lead developer: “Since Workflow was acquired by Apple, it lacks the command to obtain Street View imagery for a given location. Streets now fills this void.” The Streets API page has more information including a sample workflow.
